Last year, I loved the out route and the deep out. This year I'm having a lot of trouble getting the timing and situations down. If you wait until after the receiver makes his break, then the defender has time to make up the gap. If you throw as he's making the break, the defender will jump the route and and intercept it. Does anyone have any advice on this route? Thanks!

I tend to avoid the out route. Hasn't worked well for me in a few years. I mostly like the route when my receiver goes against a linebacker or a nickel or dime back because they're not as likely to jump the route. You MUST make a quick decision on that route. Look at it quickly and then either throw it or move on, because the longer you wait, the less likely the receiver is to be open. If the defensive back clearly is at the receiver's inside hip when he makes the break, throw it immediately, and you might want to hit the analog stick to the outside so it'll lead him a little, but often it leads him too far, so be careful. If your receiver is faster than the defender, you can afford to wait a second after the break. Wait for him to get a little separation and when you fire off the pass, push the analog stick forward and out so that it's high and leads the receiver. If the pass is too low, the defender is likely to jump the route. That's the only way the route has ever worked for me, so good luck with that.

This is my biggest problem with passing in madden! You cannot throw it to their outside shoulder, on these routes, or any routes near the sideline. They need to fix this. Also, in tight situations in the middle of the field, your WR, cannot dive or do anything besides jump. It's as if the CB's and WR's are limited to playing a vertical game, where they cannot move to get the ball, just jump.

Speaking of problem routes, it's been a rough year for the curl route and me. Maybe it's because Green Bay doesn't have any tall receivers, but my receivers have to get serious separation for that corner not to jump the route, so that's another one I'm not a big fan of anymore.
The slant will always be my best friend. Oh, how I love the West Coast offense. |
