It's seems to me that you are a little nervous that you don't know you're facts, Shockwave. The Pats passed the ball 42 times in the playoffs 42. They run out of shotgun 75% of the time. Also to Anehoic, if you are arguing that you can know what your talking about buy looking at stats, then you can run along.

The Patriots have one of the worst defenses in the LEAGUE! They also TAINTED ALL OF THEIR SUPERBOWLS!!! TAINTED!!!!

Clearly this is one of the better arguments I've seen on the forums in all my time here. =) I'm going to run along now since people don't need evidence to support their claims anymore in this strange world we've come to live in.

Today is another day that you can enjoy a game that is not Madden...

The Patriots have one of the worst defenses in the LEAGUE!

The Pats had the 12th best PASS defense and the 13th best RUSHING defense.
That put them FIFTH overall in the NFL for TOTAL defense.

That's not bad when you CONSIDER the FACTS that they switched to a 3-4 defense in the off-season, and had half their defense depleted with retirements and trades (Bruschi, Seymour, etc, etc).

You seem very bitter towards the Patriots.

Im still on the fence with this one. Peyton Manning definitely helps Addai, by passing so much, that the defense expects a pass on every play. So they pass, which sets up the run. Just look at the Super Bowl. The Saints didn't expect run, so when the Colts ran, it was successful. Anechoic, is it surprising then, that their yards per carry is high. All of there RB's are mediocre at best, and Tom Brady is the reason of their success, and the fact they have a good line. If they do draws from shotgun which the Pats do quite often, it gives more time for the O-line to make their blocks. 12th in the league is still impressive though.

Yes, except that they've been with the 3-4 for a long time. They didn't just recently switch.

None of what you're saying negates what I'm saying. Doesn't matter if they have a lot of mediocre backs, and it doesn't matter that they use the pass to open up the run. Point is, their running game was still solid. If you look here, they were tied for seventh most 1st downs gained by rushing. That's one of the most important factors in a running game. Because of the love for the spread offense in the NFL now, there are tons of teams using their passing game to open up the run instead of vice versa. New England just does it well. So what? They've got a good running game.

You could use that example against teams who run a lot.

A team expects a run, so they call a run stopping play, but instead the QB throws and leaves the D exposed since the D was expecting a run. It works both ways.

Oooh shit. Anechoic has just told me that the 3-4 wasn't a "new" thing.

I just assumed it was because I remember btuc bitching about it in the chatbox before the season, he hated the 3-4 apparently.

My bad.

(damn you btuc!, lol)

No, Mutant, Belichick tried out some 4-3 hybrid formations at the beginning of the season, which I hated. I love the 3-4.

This is simply a matter of a Jets fan attempting to validate the Jets and bring down the Pats, which is understandable. I know you're going to shit on me for saying that Phenom, but frankly I don't care. The Pats have been so great for so long, and at long last someone was able to do "better" than them. However, the Pats still get the attention because, well, they're the Pats. So, in an attempt to prove that the Jets are the best team in the AFC East, Phenom is looking for any way possible to prove that the Jets have more talent. Why choose the running game? Obviously, it's because the Jets were the best in the league running the ball. Yes, the Jets have a much better running attack than the Patriots. Yes, they have a much better defense than the Patriots. And the Patriots have a better passing offense. This is all obvious stuff. However, Phenom (along with most Jets fans, probably) is simply looking to throw out any numbers that may suggest that the Patriots are now inferior to the Jets.

I know the feeling; I spent most of my life trying to prove that the Giants were better than people thought, and when they won it all in 2007 everyone still didn't buy it. Because I live in New England, where everyone conveniently became a Pats fan in 2001, the Giants are called "lucky" and "shitty" and "terrible" because they didn't experience the same success the Patriots did. And this is true, I will never try to prove to anyone that the Giants of the 2000s was better than the Patriots of the 2000s. However, I will try to prove that the Giants are a MUCH better football team than everyone gives them credit for; everyone around me has such a blind hatred for them that they refuse to accept that they were good that year.

First of all, if YOU ACTUALLY read my last post in the thread, you would KNOW why it was closed. The title of the thread was "Roster Update" NOT "The Patriots and their terrible run game" I gave people plenty of time to get back onto topic but it didn't happen.

Now I don't know what kind of forums you visit or have visited in your lifetime but straying away from topic is grounds enough for closing the thread.

If you want to start up a topic and call it "Patriots don't run the ball" or "Patriots Suck", I don't care, as long as it's appropriate and not vulgar by any means, your more than welcome too.

Secondly, Yes I am nervous. Disregard that ENTIRE statement I posted above explaining why I closed it. You are right, like always.

Lastly, I am closing THIS. Imagine a new member comes in and see's the topic "Why was my thread closed" and inside people are talking about the Patriots run game, they are going to be confused.

Now if another mod or Admin thinks it should be re-opened then they will do so. Again, your more than welcome to make a thread and discuss this topic further but this current one is being locked.

I know it is a bit tedious and some could say "juvenile" to close THIS particular thread but it's all for a good cause. You can just as easily start up a new thread with a click of a button. If anyone disagrees you can PM me your concerns.
